Fun fact: German Chocolate Cake is NOT from Germany!
It was named after “Samuel German” — a chocolatier in the 1800s — who created a special sweet chocolate baking bar.
American bakers took that chocolate and created the famous cake we know today:
chocolate sponge + coconut pecan frosting = ICONIC.

INGREDIENTS
For the cake:

- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder

- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup oil
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup hot coffee or hot water
For the coconut pecan frosting:
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- ½ cup butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 ⅓ cups coconut (shredded)
- 1 cup pecans (chopped)
