- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream or milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
- Prepare bread and raisins: Place cubed bread and raisins in a large mixing bowl.
- Heat milk mixture: In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until butter is melted. Pour over bread and raisins. Let sit 10 minutes to soak.
- Whisk eggs and sugar: In another bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar. Pour over the soaked bread mixture and stir well.
- Bake: Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish. Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
- Make the vanilla sauce: While the pudding bakes, combine butter, sugar, and cream in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until butter is melted and sugar dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Serve: Pour warm vanilla sauce over each slice of bread pudding before serving.
Tips:
- Add spice: Mix in 1 teaspoon cinnamon or nutmeg with the bread mixture.
- Boozy twist: Soak raisins in rum or bourbon for extra flavor.
- Nutty crunch: Add chopped pecans or walnuts for texture.
- Fruit swap: Try dried cranberries, cherries, or diced apples instead of raisins.
- Serving idea: Top with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
